Hobbgoblins

or Hobbs

Information:

  • Note: little is known about Hobbs so if your character has never encountered them before stop reading at the following image unless you are acting as GM or cannot proceed without the information.
  • Appearance: these strange creatures look like anthropomorphic animals such as mice, goats, dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, badgers, whatever animal might capture a child's imagination with goblin-like qualities. Their forms vary widely and yet they are quite recognizable as being Hobbs.
  • Size: Some, especially the youngest new Hobba are quite small, but seldom smaller than a cat or rabbit. The average are middle sized while others are tall or even HUGE.
  • Human Stats with Demon Bonuses added (see demon info).
  • Child Like: Hobbs are very child like in their behavior because they were once children that were either orphans, runaways or kidnapped by other Hobbs.
  • Immortal: Hobbs stop aging once they mature to their final Hobb state as chosen by them, but they always maintain the childish qualities of their former selves as children.
  • Bloodless: Hobbs are full of sawdust beneath their fur and skin instead of blood and muscle so won't bleed to death, but they do have a skeletal structure.
  • Way of Death: To truly injure or kill a Hobb you have to get past the sawdust to hit a vital organ which could be anywhere. It is said that fire can be a good deterrent against Hobbs who fear fire and will flee at the sight of it, therefore they must also be terrified of fire breathing dragons!
  • Becoming a Hobb: children under twelve years old who eat or drink Hobb food or beverages become Hobbs and forever remain the age they were when turned in mind no matter how old they get.
  • Their childlike qualities often act as a defense by keeping others from killing or harming them even when they are perfectly irascible or even dangerous.
  • Battle: Hobbs see most things as a game including fighting and battle. They are inventive with weapons making slings, catapults, slingshots, bows, and even ballista and crude but effective canons. They also salvage a lot and find swords and other well crafted weapons which they equip their best fighters with.
  • Hobbs live in small villages within Acheron and other underworlds or nether-realms where they form Gangs they name proudly, such as; The Big Hat Gang, The Demon Horn Mob, The Sharp Tooth Gang, The Rat Pack, The Spitball Posse, etc.
  • Hobbs are bound to their villages and can only leave temporarily with a Totem.
  • In Acheron's Hobbtown, their structures are made of cobb with roofs made of various junk and plant matter. Their leader is Doc Dobbs.
  • Gang Totem: each gang has a totem that allows them to leave their village which they are tied to and travel to destinations defined by the Totem's enchantments.
  • The Totems imbed in the ground to form a camp when off world which the Hobbs must stay within the radius of. If they step outside their camp perimeter they will appear within seconds to disintegrate when in fact they were transported back to their underworld village.
  • Hobbs cannot typically carry their totems when off world.
  • Totems can also be used as gateways to other realms whose destinations rely on the totem's enchantments.
  • If exploring locally; someone must act as the banner bearer and carry the totem with the group wherever they go whether running salvage missions, buying supplies, or just exploring. If the totem is planted in the ground it creates a camp the Hobbs must then stay in the radius of.
  • Town Doctor, Mayor or Sheriff: each village has a leader that is either called a doctor, mayor or a sheriff by the Hobbs. This leader makes the Hobb food, potions, the totem's, is a master of Lore, a Shaman and keeps order in their village as much as any more intelligent child can keep order over other children.
  • Magic users are extremely rare among Hobbs and are typically named leader when discovered because of their greater presence of mind. Other leaders are often chosen by being domineering brutes feared by other Hobbs.
  • Prisoners: Hobbs sometimes captured prisoners which they either turn into slaves or put in cages to torment for entertainment by throwing rotten food at them, making them play games, or making them tell stories that had better please them!
  • Greetings Strangers: Hobbs enjoy carousing, playing games and fighting in that order and will engage unknown vistors in these pursuits. The fighting end they look for an excuse to do and if it comes to pass it is done last unless someone picks a fight with THEM.
